PRALARG INTERNATIONAL CONDEMNS THE KIDNAPPING AND MURDER OF TEACHERS AND STUDENTS IN OYO STATE

Comrade Pralagian Olayemi Akinwunmi, the Chief Executive Officer of Prisons Rehabilitation and Law Abiding Organisation International (PRALARG International), has strongly condemned the reported kidnapping and murder of teachers and students in Oyo State, describing the incident as painful, heartbreaking, and a reflection of the worsening insecurity confronting innocent citizens across Nigeria.

According to Comrade Olayemi, every government has a constitutional and moral duty to protect the lives and property of its citizens from danger, criminality, and terrorism. He stated that every individual has the fundamental right to live in safety and be protected from harm regardless of their social status, occupation, religion, or ethnic background.

He expressed concern that the continuous rise in insecurity and attacks on innocent citizens shows that the Nigerian government has significantly lost its strength and effectiveness in protecting the people. He further noted the painful contradiction within the system where citizens who cannot adequately receive protection from the government are also restricted from taking measures to defend themselves and their families.

The law appears unable to adequately protect the ordinary citizen from violent attacks, yet the same law can quickly be used to prosecute anyone who attempts to resort to self-help to survive or defend their loved ones. This creates a dangerous and frustrating situation for innocent Nigerians,” he stated.

Comrade Olayemi also observed that while law-abiding citizens are restricted from possessing assault weapons, terrorist groups and criminal networks continue to operate freely with sophisticated arms, thereby placing ordinary citizens at severe disadvantage and fear.

He called on the Federal Government, security agencies, community leaders, and civil society organizations to urgently come together to design practical, lawful, and community-based strategies capable of protecting innocent Nigerians from terrorism, kidnapping, and violent crimes.

He emphasized that security must not be treated as a political slogan but as a fundamental responsibility of government, warning that continued insecurity could weaken public confidence in national institutions and the rule of law.

PRALARG International extends its condolences to the families of the victims, the affected schools, and the people of Oyo State, while calling for urgent investigation, justice for the victims, and immediate strengthening of security architecture across the country.

Signed:
Comrade Pralagian Olayemi Akinwunmi
