WASHINGTON — Donald Trump has dismissed threats issued by senior Iranian official Ali Larijani following recent U.S.–Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian positions, signaling escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Larijani, one of Iran’s top national-security figures, warned on social media that Trump would “pay the price” for the joint military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iranian targets. The statement came amid growing regional unrest and heightened military activity across the Middle East.
Responding to the remarks on Saturday, Trump brushed off the threat, telling reporters he was unfamiliar with the Iranian official.
“I have no idea what he’s talking about, who he is,” Trump said when asked about Larijani’s warning.
The exchange reflects the increasingly hostile rhetoric between Iran and the United States following the latest round of coordinated airstrikes, which Iranian officials have condemned as an act of aggression. Tehran has repeatedly vowed retaliation, raising fears of a broader confrontation involving regional powers.
Security analysts warn that the verbal escalation between the two sides could further destabilize an already volatile situation in the Middle East, where military operations and diplomatic tensions continue to intensify.
International observers are closely monitoring developments as the possibility of retaliatory actions from Iran raises concerns about a wider regional conflict.
