Sowore Criticises Sunday Igboho’s Politics, Warns of ‘Reputational Consequences

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has criticised Yoruba nationalist figure Sunday Igboho, describing his political approach as “amala politics” and warning that it could have reputational consequences.

Sowore made the remarks in a video published on Symfoni TV News’ YouTube channel, where he discussed his observations of political activities associated with Igboho in Oyo State.

Speaking in the video, Sowore said he does not have a close personal relationship with Igboho but has followed his style of political engagement.

“As per Sunday Igboho, who I don’t know too well, but I’ve always stated that their own brand of politics is what they call amala politics in Oyo State. It is politics of ‘chop I chop.’ It is what they used to call in the Southeast ‘orobombo’ — ‘rub my back, I rub your back,’” Sowore said.

He added that such an approach to political activism could carry long-term implications.

“But what Sunday Igboho is going to quickly realize is that he’s going to be in the hall of infamy,” he said.

Sowore’s comments come amid ongoing discussions about political strategies and grassroots mobilisation among regional figures in Nigeria. Igboho, known for his advocacy for Yoruba self-determination, has attracted both support and criticism for his methods.

As of the time of reporting, Sunday Igboho had not publicly responded to Sowore’s remarks.
